Bacardi Cadencia

Story
A label for Bacardi’s new ultra-premium rum, inspired by the company’s rich heritage. 






Background

A new prestigious dark aged rum for the adventurous connoisseur—this label needed to communicate strong authenticity, cultural resonance, and intrigue to an audience who has never tried rum. 


Cadencia needed to stand out as a unique contendor among the wide competition in the rum sector. 







Exploration


I explored two main conceptual directions for the label, incorporating cues that spoke to Bacardi’s heritage and Caribbean, Cuban, Afro, and Latin American culture.




Route 1
The first route was inspired by:

Street dancing—people uniting in joyous spontaneity, reveling in a shared moment of unity and self-expression.

The meticulous, ornate handiwork of celebratory and ceremonial dress and costume.

The mezmerizing movement of circle dresses, moving in an endless wave.











Route 2
The second route was inspired by:

Historic seals and stamps, conveying a sense of wonder and discovery ingrained with rich heritage and authority.

The rhythmic yet unpredicatable movement of waves, mimicking that of dancers—dynamic, free, and unhindered.


The traditional practice of color blocking, combining brightly colored swatches of fabric in a vibrant display of diverse culture and self expression.











Simplied Approach


After pitching the initial explore to Bacardi, we settled on a simpler, more refined look that spoke more to the heritage and craft of Bacardi. 




The final moodboard, leaning into a hand-crafted vintage stamp aesthetic.






Exploration within the new direction, using typography and visual texture to create hand-crafted intricacy.




Final Feedback & Refinement

The Bacardi team liked the simplest of these approaches with the foot label and isolated logo, so I explored a few final variations.









Printing

We brought the details in the label to life through embossing, gold foil, multiple finishes, and a textured tactile varnish for an ultra-premium look and feel.
